Dragon’s Dogma, Altered Carbon Anime Series Coming to Netflix

Those of you hoping to see some new anime series on Netflix in the near future will not be disappointed. The network announced in a press release that it is currently working together with a number of studios on several original anime series, some of which will be based on well-known franchises. These include Dragon’s Dogma, Altered Carbon, and Ghost in the Shell, among others. Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 was already confirmed a while back but this is the first time we’re hearing about the Dragon’s Dogma and Altered Carbon series.

Dragon’s Dogma Follows the Plot of the Game

Dragon’s Dogma is an open-world hack-and-slash RPG developed by Capcom that was initially launched in 2012 for PS3 and Xbox 360. The game quickly found an audience thanks to its similarities to Monster Hunter and was later ported to PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Switch as Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen. Judging by the short description found in Netflix’s press release, the Dragon’s Dogma anime will closely follow the plot of the game.

“Based on a world-famous action RPG set in an open world, Dragon’s Dogma from CAPCOM will be brought to life as a Netflix original anime series,” reads the synopsis. “The story follows a man’s journey seeking revenge on a dragon who stole his heart. On his way, the man is brought back to life as an ‘Arisen’. An action adventure about a man challenged by demons who represent the seven deadly sins of humans.”

Little is Known About the Altered Carbon Anime

The other major highlight of this press release is that Netflix is also working on an Altered Carbon anime. Known as Altered Carbon: Resleeved, the anime will serve as a spin-off to the science-fiction Netflix series based on the 2002 Richard K. Morgan novel. The first season of the show launched back in February 2018 and there’s currently a second season in full production.

The synopsis for the Altered Carbon anime is even shorter
than that of Dragon’s Dogma. The description mentions only that the anime will
take place in the same universe as the show and that it “will explore new
elements of the story mythology.” Everything else is anyone’s guess at this
time.

In addition to Dragon’s Dogma, Altered Carbon and Ghost in
the Shell, Netflix also announced a few other anime series called SPRIGGAN,
Super Crooks, and Vampire in the Garden. SPRIGGAN is based on the Hiroshi
Takashige manga bearing the same name while the other two are fresh new
stories.
