Nier: Automata Game of the Year Edition Launches Early Next Year

If you were looking for an excuse to start another playthrough of Nier: Automata (or play it for the first time) this is it. Publisher Square Enix just announced that the sci-fi action title is getting a Game of the Year Edition style re-release early next year. Officially dubbed “Game of the YoRHa Edition”, the new version is scheduled to launch on PC and PS4 on February 26, 2019.

Nier: Automata game director Yoko Taro recently took to Twitter to spread the good news. And, in the process, also confuse fans with his usual antics. Unsurprisingly, Yoko Taro’s cryptic message raises more questions than answers but it’s probably a good idea not to look too deep into this. Here’s what he had to say:

Nier: Automata’s Game of the YoRHa Edition arrives two years after the original release and brings with it a bit of extra content for each platform. In addition to the base version of Nier: Automata, the GOTY version also includes the strangely named 3C3C1D119440927 DLC. Players can also look forward to the Machine Mask Accessory and four pod designs. The designs pack includes the Retro Grey Pod Skin, Grimoire Weiss Pod Skin, Cardboard Pod Skin, and Retro Red Pod Skin.

PS4 players who purchase the game will receive some additional goodies in the form of 15 PSN avatars depicting characters from Nier: Automata, a brand new dynamic theme, and two extra pod skins. PC players get the short end of the stick as the Steam version only comes with a Valve Accessory and two wallpapers. The long-awaited patch for the PC version would also be nice. So far, though, Square Enix hasn’t mentioned anything about that.

The Xbox One Equivalent Launched Back in June

Just in case you’re wondering why Square Enix didn’t announce a GOTY Xbox One version, that’s probably because there already is one. Nier: Automata Become as Gods Edition launched on Xbox One back in June and contains most of the content included in the GOTY version. Well, everything aside from the platform-exclusive content. On the bright side, the Become as Gods Edition did receive a number of fixes instead. Let’s hope those fixes will also make it into the upcoming versions of Nier: Automata on PC and PS4.

Nier: Automata Game of the YoRHa Edition will launch for $40 or your regional equivalent on both PC and PS4. If you’re looking to brush up on your YoRHa lore before February you may want to check out the Nier: Automata novels, which have just recently started making their way to the west.
